About the Artist

I am a self-taught artist who paints for the sheer joy and pleasure
of each creation I make. I have benefitted from the many tips and
techniques imparted by other artists added to by my own methods
and achieved by trial and error.

I have always had a passion for art in any form, but somehow never managed to get to Art College or allowed myself the time to develop this passion until now. Having dabbled in many forms of art including pottery, china painting, oils and acrylics I have finally discovered the wonderful medium of pastels.

Artist are always re-inventing themselves stretching their imagination and trying new things.  Recently I have moved out of my comfort zone into the more challenging area of adding that slightly abstract twist.

A side from portraits, bird and animals are a lasting passion of mine with the big five always near the top, and pastels provide the soft effect which makes you want to reach out and touch the image.  This is in part assisted by the use of velour paper which helps hold the pastel and allows additional layers of pastel to be laid down helping creating the many colours and texture of the fur.  Seeing animals in our many zoos and Wildlife Sanctuaries provides many of us with our first glimpse of not only the big cats but some of the many exotic animals which roam our planet. Whilst such Zoos and wildlife sanctuaries are important especially in respect of conservation, there is nothing quite like the opportunity to see for instance African wildlife in its own environment and this had been a long desire of mine which was not quenched until I had the opportunity to go to the Maasai Mara.

What an experience, sleeping under canvas with all the sounds of the Savannah around you – well sleep was not something that came easily as I am sure you can imagine.  I had the opportunity to go to India and to the Bandhavgarh and Kandha National Parks where I was blessed with several sightings of the majestic tiger in its natural environment.

Unfortunately this has really spoilt me, watching National Geographic will never be quite the same again, and certainly doesn't compare with actually looking an elephant or lion in the eye. The sights and sounds of the Savannah will stay with me forever.

I really enjoy imparting my enthusiasm and ability to others through workshops and demonstrations.  So take up your paint brush or dust off those long lost pastels from the back of the cupboard and come and join me or give me a ring to discuss availability to meet your art group and provide either a 2/3 hour demonstration or 4/5 hour workshop.   I am also available for a special one to one tuition if this is what you require.  Please contact me for details.
